Pit Bulls are wonderful dogs that must have the right owner. Not everyone is suited to own a Pit Bull. Pit Bulls need strong leaders so if you are a softy this dog is not for you. PPRA is dedicated to finding great homes for our dogs. We are extremely selective on who adopts our dogs. We spend a lot of time and energy with our dogs and want them to have only the best. Below is a list of our adoption rules that are REQUIRED for you to adopt one of our Pit Bulls.

Adoption Process:

  1. Must be at least 21 years old.
  2. Live in the Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, Palmer area. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS!!!!
  3. Fill out an application and be approved. Applications are also avaliable at VCA Bering Sea Animal Hospital.
  4. Be willing to have a home visit before and after the adoption.
  5. Have a crystal clear understanding of the breed. (do your research!!!!)
  6. Must own or have a landlord approval.
  7. Two solid references from vets, employers, etc. (Family and friends do not count!)
  8. All members of the family must agree to adopt a dog.
  9. Pay a $250 adoption fee.
  10. Sign a Legally Binding Adoption Contract.

If your application is approved we will notify you and arrange a home visit. If the home visit goes well, we give you a day or two to think through the adoption of the dog. Remember this is a lifelong commitment and should never be rushed. This is a good time to think into the future, look at your goals for your life...will there be room for a dog? After the day or two has passed and you decided to make the commitment we begin a 10 day trial placement. If all goes well during the trial placement you will sign the adoption contract and live happily ever after with your new dog.

NOTE:
Our adoption fee is $250, this fee includes: spay/netuer, vaccinations, microchipping, rehabilitation/training, any medical care needed and the overall care of the dog.

We rarely adopt out same sex pit bulls in the same home. There is a higher incidence of aggressive behavior between dogs of the same sex. Two males or two females often view each other as rivals even if they appear to get along most of the time. This is a fact for every breed. Most dogs however, don't resolve conflicts with the determination and intensity of a Pit Bull. Remember that these dogs were "bred" to fight. Submission signals that would indicate the end of the hostilities can be ignored in the heat of a fight by a Pit Bull type dogs. (Pit Bull Recue Central)
